Tips Excerpt from Modern Trumpet Method, Benny Barbara, PromoSon L.G. 1996
A miracle mouthpiece does not exist. Only with personal effort, technique and perseverance can you master playing the trumpet and thus obtain your individual satisfaction and reach the desired objectives. The sole function of the mouthpieces is to receive, direct and amplify the vibrations created by you lips.
 |
Narrow Rim: A narrow rim helps players who must cover a wide range of pitch. This can produce swollen and painful lips with excessive pressure |
 |
Wide Rim: A wide rim increases a players endurance without the effect of swollen and painful lips. But limits the players flexibility. |
 |
Sharp Rim Edge: A sharp rimmed edge produces a brilliant metallic tone and more reliable attacks. This can also produce swollen and painful lips with excessive pressure |
 |
Rounded Rim: Crooked teeth may require a rounded rim contour at the expense of clean low-register attacks.

ALL BRASS PLAYERS are aware the problem of excessive pressure on the lips, particularly on the upper lip, and its undesirable consequences: stiffness, premature fatigue, poor execution, etc. This is because the upper lip is erroneously used as the base for the application of the embouchure and consequently the lower lip accommodates itself to attain the necessary vibrations.
Since the lower lip is limited to controlling the labial aperture, it avoids its share of work in supporting the embouchure of the mouthpiece. This causes the upper lip to work harder resulting in fatigue of the upper lip, accompanied by rigidity and stiffness and limiting one's range and endurance.
The function of the Lippe system is to equalize the trumpet mouthpiece pressure on both the upper and lower lips and properly exercise both upper and lower lip muscle groups during routine practice. Once and for all you will eliminate problems such as swollen lips, progressive decay of your range and limited endurance.
By following our instructions you will experience a noticeable change in your range and execution while increasing your performance day by day.
